09/09/09 and consumer psychology

Today is the ninth day of the ninth month of 2009 - or 9-9-9.

Only once a century does this number appear on a calendar. So take note.

The number 999 has no real significance to me as a date but that does not mean it is not an important number. In fact, in the field of consumer psychology, the number 999 is probably the most studied and important of numbers there is. And the reason? Well, because a product priced at US$9.99 is seen to be much more affordable than if it were priced at exactly US$10.00.
